After talks in the Labour Court in Dublin on Tuesday failed to resolve a a problem that centres on the way severe cuts to the financing of Irish racing as a result of the recession will be implemented.
At the heart of the impending crisis is the issue of Turf Club salaries and expenses that are likely to be reduced considerably for some officials, with contractual working conditions also subject to changes.
Raceday officials are starters, judges, handicappers, stewards’ secretaries who were at a meeting held in Keadeen Hotel, Newbridge, County Kildare Irish turf officials have voted for industrial action by an 87 per cent majority.
It seems that racing will go ahead this weekend as no definite date for start of strike has been announced.
