Damian Coleman’s side got off to a winning start on home-soil at Celtic Park, with an impressive 1-18 to 1-12 win over Tyrone.

Determined Derry raced into a three point lead early on with Mark Lynch, Andrew McCarney and James Kielt on target.

Derry’s dominance continued on the restart to take a double-scores lead on a 0-12 to 0-6 score-line.

A brace of goals were vital as hosts Meath were 2-08 to 1-13 winners at Pairc Tailteann, Navan.

Eamon O’Brien’s charges netted vital three-pointers at the start of each half, as they withstood a strong Orchard County comeback.

Meath led by 2-06 to 0-06 on the restart, but six unanswered points including two from Steven McDonnell helped level the contest briefly for the Orchard County.

However Meath were the more composed of the two sides in the closing stages, with David Bray ending a barren 25-minute period for the Royals on the scoreboard.

Substitutes Anthony Moyles and Seamus Kenny added greatly to Meath’s cause and provided a settling force with Bray and Charlie Vernon swapping late points as the hosts held out for a one-point win.

At O’Moore Park, Laois withstood a determined Tipperary comeback to claim a 1-13 to 1-11 win in their NFL Division 2 clash at fog-ridden Portlaoise.

The hosts led by 1-9 to 0-2 at half-time following a 27th minute MJ Tierney goal, but were placed on the backfoot on the restart as Tipperary rallied.

John Evans charges failed to read the script and turned a ten-point interval deficit on its head to equalise with nine minutes remaining.

Barry Grogan was sublime in front of the posts and kicked four second half points, with the contribution of substitute Conor Sweeney also vital.

Philip Austin snatched a 57th minute goal for the visitors, but Laois regained composure late on as points from Brendan Quigley and Donal Miller ensured the hosts claimed victory.
