BADMINTON Horse Trials in Britain and the Nations’ Cup show in Lummen,
Belgium will be the main focus of attention in equestrian sport this
weekend.

Ireland will field a four-man Nations’ Cup team at Lummen on Friday,
with Shane Breen, Denis Lynch, Billy Twomey and Alex Duffy
representing their country in the 12-nation competition.

Lummen’s 40,000 euro Grand Prix takes place on Sunday.

Ireland will field nine riders at the UK’s biggest outdoor sporting
event, held in the grounds of the Duke of Beaufort’s residence at
Badminton, Gloucestershire, with over a quarter of a million
spectators expected during the four days of the four-star competition,
which begins on Friday and concludes on Monday.

Camilla Speirs, at 20 one of the youngest riders taking part in the
World Cup Qualifier, will be joined at the English venue by more
seasoned Irish campaigners Mark Kyle, Sacha Pemble, Sam Watson, Austin
O’Connor, Elizabeth Power, Michael and Patricia Ryan and Capt. Geoff
Curran, who has just flown in from his four days competing at another
four-star event in Lexington, Kentucky.

Elsewhere, Ireland will have dressage competitors at Saumur in France,
with show jumpers competing in Mannheim, Germany, Maubeuge and
Fontainebleau in France, and San Giovanni in Italy.
