Boxing: Scan shows BOTH Joe Joe Nevin’s legs broken following dastardly attack in Mullingar

The nation was shocked at the weekend when hearing that Joe Joe  Nevin would be out of action for several months’ following a cowardly attack on the Irish Olympian in Mullingar.

Worse news has followed since scans now show that in fact BOTH legs have been broken.

John Joe’s coach, Cavan councillor, Brian McKeown  confirmed this last night to the ‘Irish Independent’:

“It seems that there is a fracture in his left leg,” he confirmed.

“I spoke with him on the phone this afternoon and he was very positive, but he was disappointed.  He expects to be confined to a wheelchair,” he added.

The boxer underwent a three hour operation in Tullamore  on Monday, with medics working to re-set the shin bone in his right leg.

Despite the career-threatening scale of his injuries, the Mullingar native has vowed that he will return to the ring.

It is hoped that he may be allowed home later this week but will have to spend at least three months convalescing, much of that time confined to a wheelchair.

Green Blood Boxing  had already said he will be flown to the United States at the earliest possible opportunity to begin rehab.

Two men were held in relation to the incident, however both were released without charge but it is understood that Nevin himself has yet to be interviewed.

A file is currently being  prepared for the DPP in relation to one of those arrested.

Numerous messages of support have been received by Nevin via Social Media. Here is but a small selection:
