Boxing: Katie Taylor to seek sixth successive European crown on 30th May

The EUBC has finally confirmed that the 2014 European Elite Women’s Championships will take place in Bucharest, Romania May 30th – June 8th.


The Olympic Gold medallist and four time world champion will be seeking to take a sixth in a row crown in the Romanian capital where among her main challengers are likely to be

Russia’s Sofia Ochigava (albeit she has not competed competitively since London 2012), England’s Natasha Jonas, Mira Potkonen of Finland, Estelle Mosselly of France and possibly Turkey’s Gulsum Tatar.

Another likely opponent is the host nation’s  Mihaela Lacatus who had to withdraw from her world championship bout with Taylor in China due to injury.


Taylor will prepare for the defence of her title with bouts in Cork on 1st and 2ndMay and in Dungarvan’s Sports Centre on May 3rd where among possible opponents are two as yet unnamed Americans and Swiss

Champion Anais Kistler, previously better known as the European Kick-Boxing title holder. More on these bouts once the opponents are finalised.


Taylor has not in fact fought in Romania in the past.
