Gennady Golovkin and Saul ”Canelo” Alvarez are set for a rematch on September 15th of this year it has been announced tonight.
The news comes after the pair drew their match in what was a hugely controversial decision. A rematch between the pair was supposed to be scheduled in for May this year but Alvarez was forced to withdraw for the fight as he failed two drugs tests. Alvarez was incidentally banned from fighting for two months, however that ban is set to be lifted on August 17th when the two months expire.
Both boxers are the best in the business in my opinion, they have superb records. Golovkin or the man who is effectively known as ”GGG” has a record of 39 fights, 38 wins, with the draw coming against Alvarez. He has won 34 of those fight by TKO. The Kazakhstan fighter has won numerous medals and awards including medals at Olympic Games in 2004 getting silver at Athens, as well as winning the World Championships at middleweight in 2003.
Alvarez is nine years younger than GGG at just 27. However, he has fought 52 times. The Mexico born fighter is also effectively known as ”Canelo” . In 52 fights he has 49, lost 1 and drawn 2. He has won 34 fights by TKO the exact same as GGG.
It looks set to be another be night of boxing and there is sure to be more controversy once the boxers enter the ropes this coming September.
