David O’Brien filled the top two spots in Wednesday’s $35,000 1m45 Power & Speed Stake, at the five-star fixture at Tryon International Equestrian Center in North Carolina, USA.
O’Brien partnered the eight-year-old gelding KIR Royal SCF to the winning time of 32.12 seconds, but also took the runner-up position with Kirschwasser SCF, crossing the line in 33.54 seconds.
“These horses are full brothers and both eight-year-olds, homebred. This is their first time doing a five-star competition, and they’ve really moved up to the bigger levels now. The future looks promising,” the Galway rider stated.
Ireland also won the Power & Speed competition at the venue with Conor Swail partnering GK Coco Chanel to success, ahead of American Caitlyn Connors on Express Blue Gp Du Bois Madame.
Tryon’s five-star show continues until Sunday. Thursday’s highlight is the $132,000 Horseware Ireland 1m50 Welcome Stake, with the $35,000 Tryon Resort Speed Stake being Friday’s main class. On Saturday combinations will compete for the lucrative $384,000 Rolex Grand Prix.
