Millstreet Horse Show begins with Millstreet Ruby & Boomerang Qualifiers

Millstreet Horse Show 2019 began at The Green Glens Arena in Millstreet, Co. Cork, today with two qualifiers in the Main International Arena.

Action began with the Millstreet Rugby 5 Year Old Horse Qualifier with 102 combinations participating, of which 16 qualified. Cora Sharkey with Lisboy Emerald was fastest in the two-phase competition, going clear in both phases, and finishing the latter phase in 32.68 seconds.

In the other opening day qualifier in the Main International Arena, The Boomerang Qualifier for 6 and 7 Year Old Horses, 16 combinations qualified from a starting list of 113.

This year’s Hickstead Derby-winning rider Michael Pender took the top two spots, with HHS Vancouver and MHS Cardenta respectively. The Kildare native and his two horses went clear in both rounds of the two-phase competition.

Wednesday sees another qualifier in each of the classes, with 126 on the start list for the Millstreet Ruby Qualifier for 5 Year Old Horses which gets underway at 8.30am.

Tomorrow’s Boomerang Qualifier has 132 combinations entered, with the class getting underway at 1.30pm.
