Galway made up for their disappointing loss to Cork last time out, by winning an epic battle with Kilkenny on Sunday.
John McIntyre’s side inflicted a first defeat of the season on the cats as they emerged victorious on a scoreline of 4-14 to 3-13. The home side looked like winning easily with less than fifteen minutes to go but the black and amber fought back and made a real game of it late on.
The visitors had began the better and early goals from Michael Fennelly and Eddie Brennan looked to give them a commanding lead but the home side hit back with three pointers from Joe Gantley and Iarla Tannion. At the interval they led 2-7 to 2-5.
Iarla Tannion and Cyril Donnellan scored further goals for the tribesmen after the restart while Colin Fennelly hit back for Kilkenny. It was not enough however and the men in maroon held on for a well earned victory.
