Sligo produced a stunning second half performance to beat Galway 2-14 to 0-15 in the semi final of the Connacht senior Football Championship.

Sligo, managed by Galway native Kevin Walsh, may have been the underdogs ahead of the trip to the sea-side however they showed more hunger and desire than their hosts and will now meet either Mayo or Leitrim in the Connacht final, Galway meanwhile will have a lot of soul searching to do as they head into the Qualifiers.
Two goals in the last 15 minutes from man of the match Adrian Marren proved decisive. The forward scored his first with a penalty on 55 minutes before be sealed the win 3 minutes from the end.
Sligo received a welcome boost before throw-in with David Kelly named in their starting XV however it Galway who made the better start and led 0-09 to 0-05 at half time with Mark Hehir scoring six of Galway’s points.
Marren led the response for Sligo with three points with all of the Yeat’s County’s points coming from open play.
Sligo came out all guns blazing in the second half and by the 45th minute had reduced the deficit to just one point thanks to scores from Marren, midfielder Shane McManus and Kelly
A minute later Marren sent over a ’45’ to bring the sides level. The momentum was now in Sligo’s favour with Galway struggling to get on the ball.
Paul Conroy put Galway back in front however Sligo responded through Alan Costello.
Then came the decisive moment of the game as Paul McGovern was bundled over by Finian Hanley and Sligo were awarded a penalty.
Marren stepped up to take the kick and drilled a hard low shot to the bottom corner of the net to make it 1-10 to 0-10 with 15 minutes to go.
Galway boss Alan Mulholland responded to the goal by sending on Padraic Joyce and the move seemed to work as points from Hehir and Sice steadied Galway’s nerves and made it a one point game.
However Sligo showed their metal when Kelly justified hit a superb point just to put the visitors two points ahead and they sealed the game with three minutes left when Marren did well to collect a kick from Alan Costello before firing the ball home.
Marren and Costello both added late scores which were cancelled out by efforts from Galway pair Michael Meehan and Conroy however it was too little too late from the Tribesman and it is Sligo that progress to the provincial final
