The GAA has hailed its ticket selling partnership with Centra and SuperValu as a huge success after it was revealed that sales of championship tickets had surpassed the magic €1million mark last Friday.
Earlier this year, the GAA and All-Ireland football and hurling championship sponsors SuperValu and Centra announced a partnership with Irish website Tickets.ie. The initiative allows fans to buy tickets for all championship matches in 164 stores throughout the country.
Since the scheme came on stream in May over 66,000 tickets have been purchased in shops across the land.
GAA President Liam O’Neill declared the venture a resounding success and added that it made access to tickets easier for hurling and football fans.
“We were acutely aware of the need to provide easier access to our tickets and this is what this arrangement provides. The take up of tickets by supporters using these outlets is a ringing endorsement of this model and it also means that not only are Centra and SuperValu valued sponsors of our hurling and football championships respectively, but they are also complementing our clubs by helping us to get match tickets into communities across the island.”
Martin Kelleher the managing director of Musgrave Retail Partners Ireland, parent company of both supermarket chains, also expressed his pleasure with the high level of ticket sales so far.
“We are delighted with the success of this ticket sales initiative as it offers our customers the convience of purchasing GAA Match Tickets from over 115 SuperValu and 50 Centra Stores Nationwide. This ticket initiative further strengthens our partnership with the GAA and underlines our joint commitment to building vibrant local communities.”
