Daly & Prendiville retain Doubles Crown

Kerry’s Ashley Prendiville and Maria Daly retained their All Ireland Senior Doubles 60×40 title in Abbeylara yesterday , defeating the 2009 World Champions, Antrim siblings, Fiona Shannon and Sibeal Gallagher on a score line of 20-21 21-7 21-8.

The Antrim duo ,won the first 21-20, but the Ballymacelligott ladies pushed into top gear in the second and third, to retain the crown they won in 2010 with a 21-8 victory in the third. The Kingdom ladies who were named Munster team of the year at the GAA Handball All Stars in November enjoyed considerable success last year in claiming all titles in 40×20 and 60×30 between them ; in this year’s final they were up against opponents seeking their 6th doubles title.

Later this month, Prendiville and Daly will put their friendship to one side as they face each other in the Ladies All Ireland Senior Singles Final in Cappagh, Limerick but here they were combining to bring Kerry its second All Ireland doubles championship.

Following a terrific programme at Abbeylara on Sunday, the weekend finished with Tipperary, Cork and Antrim collecting 3 All Ireland titles each with 7 adult 40×20 championship titles still to be decided.
