2019 PwC All-Star Hurling Team 2019

The GAA have revealed the PwC Hurling All-Star team for 2019. It is Liam Sheedy’s Tipperary that lead the way with seven places on the all-star team with Padraic Maher reaching a milestone of six all-star awards.

The Premier County are represented in every line on the pitch. In goal is Brian Hogan who had an excellent season between the posts for the Tipperary. He joins his dad Ken who also won an all-star award for his goalkeeping exploits back in 1987. Furthermore, Tipperary also have Cathal Barrett named in the full back line, but they also have Thurles man Ronan Maher  at number 3, in addition,  Brendan and Padraic are named at 5 and 7 respectively. Moreover, Noel McGrath is selected after another superb year. Tipperary’s sole representative in attack is Drom and Inch club man Seamus Callanan.

In total five counties are represented in the team. Tipperary have seven for instance with Brian Hogan, Cathal Barrett, Ronan Maher, Padraic Maher and Brendan Maher all named. Noel McGrath and Seamie Callanan are selected. Brian Cody’s Kilkenny have three players in team having reached the final this year. Padraig Walsh, TJ Reid and Colin Fennelly are all selected.

Limerick have two players in the team. Sean Finn at corner back and Aaron Gillane at corner. Furthermore, Davy’s Wexford have two players in the team.  Diarmuid O’Keeffe and Lee Chin are the Model county representatives . Cork complete the XV with the impressive Pat Horgan at corner forward.

Speaking to GAA.ie, GAA President, John Horan, said “Nearly 50 years on from their launch, the PwC All-Stars remain the gold standard for acknowledging exceptional achievement in Irish sport”. “In congratulating all those who have been chosen in this distinguished 15 in recognition of their excellence in playing our games, it’s also a proud day for their families and the club volunteers who helped shape them.”

In addition, the CEO of the Gaelic Players Association Paul Flynn said “Congratulations to our hurlers on this wonderful achievement. An All-Star is a fantastic personal accolade that has a profound impact on you personally, on the player’s family, on their club, and on their county. They should enjoy this special time.

Players that have missed out: 

Several top players have missed out and probably feel hard done by not making the team. In my opinion, these players would include Eoin Murphy, Shaun Murphy, Huw Lawlor and Liam Ryan.
