Cork’s Amy O’Shea talks Ladies All-Ireland Final

Leading up to All Ireland.

As the championship season draws to a close we are delighted to be competing in the All Ireland Final. Since the Muster final back in July we had to wait nearly 6 weeks to play our next game. That saw us come up against a very strong Dublin team, who were defending their All Ireland crown. In what can only be described as an epic game of football, we were fortunate to come out on top by a point. The game was almost gone from us with 15 minutes to go, when we found ourselves down 6 points but with some excellent defending and patience in the forward line we clawed our way back into the game.

The depth of our panel proved vital in the last 12 minutes with the girls who came on adding a new lease of life to the team. At the final whistle supports, players, and management were ecstatic. As we awaited the draw for the Semi final the celebrations continued.

The semi final saw us once again face Laois (a replay of League Final) while Kerry took on Monaghan on the other side of the draw. The draw also put a sharp stop to our celebration as the game was scheduled for the following Saturday. So after 6 weeks without a game we were now facing playing 2 games in 6 days.

The Semi Final was another battle and Laois got the ideal start, they were 1-03 to no score up after 15 minutes. However, through persistence and good defending we drew level before half time with a cracking goal from Rhona Buckley. In the second half we got the ideal start clocking up 2 goals and 2points with no reply. Laois did try to fight their way back but we once again hit back with another goal and another few points. On the final whistle every cork girl was delighted to find themselves back in an All Ireland final. We will however have to wait until this weekend to find out our opposition.
