All Ireland Club Hurling Champions dumped out of Limerick hurling championship

All Ireland Club Hurling Champions, Na Piarsaigh have been dumped out of the Limerick SHC before the end of the group stages.

Ballybrown’s 1-15 to 0-09 win over Doon on Sunday confirmed that Na Piarsaigh can’t progress to the quarter finals no matter what happens in the final round of group games. Na Piarsaigh, claimed an historic All-Ireland Club title on St Patrick’s Day, but they lost two of their group games in the county championship to Doon and Killmallock. Shane O’Neill’s side bounced back to beat Bruree and South Liberties but these results were insufficient.

There are now 5 out of 6 quarter final places confirmed, with Ballybrown, Doon, Killmallock, Adare and Patrickswell confirming their places. Adare confirmed their passage with the hammering of Knockainey on a score of 3-23 to 1-04. The winners in fact held Knockainey scoreless in the opening half before going on and winning the game by 25 points.

Patrickswell, managed by former Limerick star, Gary Kirby will also progress from this group. They ensured a quarter final spot with a 0-25 to 1-09 win over Ahane in the Gaelic Grounds on Saturday. Ahane with Ollie Moran back playing can still claim a quarter final spot if they beat Knockainey in their final game, knowing that a victory will see them through to the last 6. At the other end of the group, Knockaidey or Murroe-Boher will be relegated. In the other group South Liberties or Bruree will make the drop.
