Cadogan out of Munster Hurling opener for Cork

Cork dual star Eoin Cadogan will not figure for the Rebels in their Munster SHC opener against Waterford next  Sunday, manager Jimmy Barry-Murphy confirmed last night.

Cadogan picked up a hamstring injury in the Allianz Football League earlier in the year and has not recovered in time for the game in Thurles next weekend.

“Eoin isn’t available now,” said Barry-Murphy yesterday evening. “We trained last night and he couldn’t train, so he’s not on the panel for the Waterford game. Paul Haughney is a doubt as well but apart from that, the squad is healthy.”

Barry-Murphy was warm in his praise for Paudie O’Sullivan, who has battled back from a horrific injury to rejoin the Cork panel this season. O’Sullivan was on duty with divisional side Imokilly last year when he suffered a serious leg break but is now back in action.

“There’s been a great improvement in Paudie the last two weeks,” said Barry-Murphy. “We played a couple of challenge games and he’s come through them, he’s been very good.

“We’re very pleased for himself, obviously. As of now, he’s definitely going to be on the panel for the Waterford game, which is great for himself — he’s had four or five operations, which has been very hard on him, mentally as well as everything else, I’d say.

“He played for us against Dublin last week and he was very good, and it’s great to see him back in contention. It’s a great boost.”
