Camogie League Previews – Sunday Feb 23rd

Irish Daily Star Weekend Camogie Previews Sunday February 23rd

Clare v Derry, Bray Emmets, Mike Sheehan, 2.00pm
Derry had a challenging league campaign last season and will be aiming to do better this time around. Buoyed by the return of the Eoghan Rua contingent, they face a Clare side that will be keen to secure honours this season. Chloe Morey is one of the key players for Clare while the McGoldricks and Sinead Cassidy are vital for Derry.

Verdict: Derry

Galway v Kilkenny, Duggan Park, Ballinasloe, Alan Lagrue, 2.30pm
A repeat of last year’s final and Galway will no doubt want to lay down another marker for this year. Tony Ward has a full hand to pick from, bar the Ardrahan club players who play in the upcoming AIB Senior club final on March 2nd. Ailish O’Reilly, Niamh Kilkenny and Brenda Hanney are key for the All Ireland champions while Kilkenny will aim to exact some revenge and will rely on Aoife Neary, Katie Power and Ann Dalton to show the way.

Verdict: Galway

Offaly v Tipperary, Offaly, Carrig, Birr, Karl O’ Brien, 2.00pm
Neighbours and rivals with differing fortunes. Offaly appear to be making strong progress at both Senior and Junior level while Tipperary are undergoing a transition at present. Tina Hannon and Michaela Morkan are two of the leaders in the Offaly side, while Tipperary will rely on Jill Horan at midfield to pull the strings.

Verdict: Offaly
Cork v Dublin, CIT, Cork, Aiden O Brien, 3.30pm
The current League champions will face into Sunday’s tie without any Milford representation, as they get ready for the AIB Senior club final on March 2nd. Cork at home and with the Mackey sisters, Orla Cotter and Sile Burns all going well, should collect the points against a Dublin side in transition

Verdict: Cork
