Jim Gavin today has said that it will be left up to Stephen Cluxton on whether he will play a part in the Leinster football final against Laois on Sunday.
Gavin speaking to RTE Sport said it will be Cluxton’s “call” on whether he will line out for the reigning All-Ireland Champions or not. Cluxton sustained a back injury in the Leinster semi-final win over Longford after he was challenged in the air by James McGivney who was subsequently given a red card.
RTE Sports commentator Brian Carthy asked Gavin at a media day ahead of the Leinster Final about the chances of a quick return to action for the Parnells club man and Gavin stated “It is a possibility”. He said, He (Cluxton) had a fall in the last game, but thankfully he is on the road to recovery”. He went on to say that Cluxton is in great spirits and a call will be made closer to the game.
Gavin said that he and his management team have took a step back and let the medical team work with Cluxton. He said “Ultimately we’ve left the last call to the player and we will see how he is during week”. Gavin confirmed at the press day that Cluxton did train however since the win over Longford, if he was to miss the game it would be his first since 2004.
