Cork v Tipperary, Preview, Team News and live score updates

Cork v Tipperary, Sunday, 2pm, Pairc Ui Rinn

Cork and Tipperary face off here at the second time of asking after last weekends dreadful weather caused the game to be postponed. It is a massive game for both teams, a win for Cork would see them safely through to the quarter final stages, a draw would perhaps do considering they have already beaten Clare and Limerick. Tipperary will need favours from Wexford to stand a chance of qualifying.

Cork have played four, won two and lost two. The two wins came against Limerick and Clare, while the losses came at the hands of Kilkenny and Wexford. Liam Sheedy’s Tipperary have only 2 points from a possible 8 so a big improvement is needed here. They lost to Wexford, Kilkenny and Limerick, the only win came in their first league game when they hammered Clare.

I expect a rip roaring contest in a packed Pairc Ui Rinn on Sunday where the TG4 cameras will be broadcasting the game  live. Both managers will name strong teams I expect and will want to get one over on each other as the Munster Championship starts in just over 2 months time. In the Cork defence, players like Stephen McDonnell, Chris Joyce and Eoin Cadogan will need to be on their game, Bill Cooper will likely partner Cormac Murphy in midfield. In attack then much again will rely on the excellent Patrick Horgan, while Aidan Walsh, Seamus Harnedy and Conor Lehane will be expected to put in big performances also. Tipperary boss Liam Sheedy is likely to start a very strong XV also. In defence Ronan and Padraic Maher will start for sure, while Cathal Barrett who was named to start last weekend when the teams were announced is expected to start at corner back. Noel McGrath and John McGrath are also expected to be named in a side that will also include Drom and Inch man Seamie Callanan.

Team News

Cork: TBA

Tipperary: TBA

Fairly even on the betting side of things with Cork 4/5 and Tipperary 5/4 with the draw 8/1. Think Tipperary will win it but will be close.

Verdict: Tipperary
