Dublin v Galway, Saturday, 7pm, Croke Park
Dublin and Galway come face to face this weekend in a repeat of the 2018 league final in which Dublin were victorious. Dublin last weekend travelled to Clones to play Malachy O’Rourke’s Monaghan and they lost by 2-13 to 1-13 in the end. The performance wasnt typical of a Dublin side we all have come accustomed to but we have to say they are probably not long back training considering they were on team holidays and are only getting used to the new rules in place as well. Galway last weekend beat Cavan narrowly in their opening game at Pearse Stadium.
Looking at this game I expect Dublin to win it easy enough. They have quality scattered in every line of the team, Mick Fitzsimons, Jonny Cooper, Brian Fenton , Michael Dara McAuley, Dean Rock, Paul Mannion and Con O’Callaghan are just some names. I expect them to be in better form this weekend and put in a massive performance back in Croke Park under the lights. Galway will look for a performance and who knows if they put in a good performance they may go close to causing an upset. They have good players to Shane Walsh, Johnny Heaney, Ian Burke and Liam Silke.
The odds have Dublin as massive 1/5 favourites to get their first win of the league, Galway are 4/1 and the draw is 12/1. The handicap market has Dublin -5 at 10/11. On that evidence I would back Dublin to win by 4-6 points at odds of 10/3. I also would back Paul Mannion to get a goal anytime at 3/1.
