Tipperary All-Ireland winner Colm Bonnar has been appointed as manager of the Carlow senior hurling team, while Turlough O’Brien will continue as football manager of the Barrowsiders.
Club delegates ratified the appointments at Tuesday night’s county board meeting in Carlow. Bonnar, who hails from the Cashel King Cormac’s club arrives with an impressive C.V, he served as a selector with Waterford from 1999 to 2003, before taking charge of the Wexford senior hurlers in 2008, a stint which last 3 years. Bonnar, who works in Waterford Institute of Technology also guided the college hurling team to 4 Fitzgibbon titles with these coming in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2013.
He has an impressive C.V as a player also winning All -Ireland titles in 1989 and 1991, while he has also won 5 Munster Hurling titles these coming in 1987, 1988, 1989, 1991 and 1993. He has also won numerous titles with Cashel King Cormac’s winning a Tipperary senior hurling championship in 1991 and winning a Munster title with his club also that year.
