GAA News – Can the Dublin footballers cope without missing players?

After breezing through another Leinster Championship without even a finger laid on them, All Ireland Champions Dublin will have their first major test when they take on Donegal in the All Ireland Quarter Final in a Sold out Croke Park on Saturday Evening.

Notwithstanding that they have the best panel in the country, Dublin are still without two of their stars from last year in Rory O’Carroll and Reigning Footballer of the Year Jack McCaffrey. They haven’t proven to be a loss to the Dublin team as of yet but this Saturday will give us a much better indication on that count.

They will be tested there’s no doubt about that, Can Dublin control Michael Murphy without O’Carroll manning the square and with McCaffrey gone who is going to man Ryan McHugh’s insightful runs from deep.

If they pass on both these counts they will probably win the game and still be on course for back to back titles.

Despite missing the last few weeks Dublin Manager Jim Gavin is confident James McCarthy will be available come the weekend.

“He is available for selection.

“Obviously he hasn’t played for a few weeks, like, an inter-county game, but he is a very experienced player and it is good to have him back.

“He has met all, probably was a bit ahead, of all his goals so it is just great to have him back on grass last week which is great news.” he told Gaa.ie.

Saturday evening will give us a great indication into whether the gap has closed since last year or are Dublin just as good as ever. Can the Dubs cope without missing players?
