GAA News – Roscommon may not host Connacht Final

Roscommon may not host the quarter final on June 9th against Galway should they get over the challenge of Leitrim.

The rota system is currently in place which means Roscommon are scheduled to host a Connacht Final if they beat Leitrim this weekend, the game will be against Galway or Sligo.

But now the news is that there are safety concerns and capacity problems regarding Hyde Park now. The Hyde has been plagued with issues for the last few years but Roscommon fans thoughts this was sorted but unfortunately not.

The Connacht Council are due to have a meeting tonight and more details will emerge for that of course, but it’s looking likely that the ground will not be suited to the host the June 9th final.

The final pairing has yet been decided with Roscommon playing Leitrim this Saturday and Galway playing Sligo the following week. According to the bookies both Roscommon and Galway are expected to be paired once again in the Connacht Final, which will be the third year in a row. The sides drew in 2016, with Galway winning the replay, while Roscommon beat Galway last year in Pearse Stadium.

It will be a massive dent in terms of supporters that were looking forward to having a game at Roscommon’s Hyde Park but we all know anyway Leitrim or Sligo might cause a shock in the semi-final and in that case then Elvery’s McHale Park in Castlebar will more than likely be the venue. We will update in due course regarding where the final will be played on SportsNewsIreland.
