GAA Results: Morgan point earns Tyrone draw in Roscommon

Roscommon 1-10 Tyrone 1-10

Roscommon and Tyrone played out a 1-10 each draw at Dr Hyde Park in a game full of high drama. Roscommon and Anthony Cunningham will be very unhappy as they were winning by 7 points on 43 minutes, however credit must go to Tyrone who reeled them in. Their was drama at the end however as Roscommon got a free in in injury time but the referee instead opted to throw the ball up due to retaliation from Ultan Harney

Roscommon led by a point at the end of the first quarter with Conor Cox coming to the fore. Peter Harte and Conor Daly traded the first two scores of the game before Harte and Cox then traded scores. Ronan McNamee got forward from full back to fist over however Shane Killoran pointed after a goal bound effort from Donie Smith hit the post. Cox and Killoran pointed yet again and it was double scores now with 25 minutes gone, 0-06 to 0-03 to the Rossies. It went from bad to worse for Tyrone as Roscommon hit a purple patch with Ultan Harney, Donie Smith, Niall Kilroy and Ronan Daly all raising white flags to stretch lead to seven. Harte kicked his third free for the Red Hand men before the break.

Harte kicked two frees on the resumption to bring them back into contention trailing by only four. However, they were given a sucker punch then when Roscommon got a goal courtesy of Ultan Harney who palmed the ball to the net having been assisted by Conor Cox. Indeed it was Roscommon’s only score in the second half and it proved vital. Morgan kicked a free, before Cathal McShane popped up on 50 minutes to give the game a bit of life with a superb goal and the gap was three. The gap was down to just two on 56 minutes as Darren McCurry pointed before Morgan kicked another long range free on 65 minutes. The Edendork club man Morgan then went on to kick the equaliser for Tyrone again from play just like he did last weekend against Mayo.

It looked as though Roscommon were going to steal back the win when they were rewarded a free. However, the decision was overturned and a throw ball was called due to retaliation from the Rossies. A draw probably the fair result in the end though.
