The GAA have announced the nominees for the footballer and hurler for August. In regards to the hurler of the month for August, all three players come from the new All-Ireland Champions, Tipperary. These players are Noel McGrath, Ronan Maher, and Barry Heffernan. The trio had a massive say in the All-Ireland with excellent performances and are deservingly nominated.
In terms of the Footballer of the Month for August, Con O’Callaghan, Stephen O’Brien and Paddy Durcan. O’Callaghan from the Cuala club put in some big a massive performance in the semi-final scooping the man of the match award in the win over Mayo. Stephen O’Brien was Kerry’s leading light in the win over Tyrone with the Kenmare Shamrocks contributing 1-02 from play in a man of the match performance for Peter Keane’s charges who will now go into the final as underdogs against five in a row seeking Dublin on September 1st. Paddy Durcan had was excellent for Mayo in the Super 8 win over Donegal and followed that up with a good personal performance against Dublin.
The winners of these awards will be selected by fellow inter-county players in hurling and football.
