Former Dublin football star Jason Sherlock has announced his retirement from the game.
The 37-year-old, was one of the stars of the 1995 team that helped Dublin win their first All-Ireland title in 12 years. He had remained active with his club St. Oliver Plunkett’s/Eoghan Ruadh’s in recent times. However, following their shock first round defeat to Ballinteer St. John’s in this year’s county championship, Sherlock decided the time was right to bow out.
“I’ve decided to call it a day,” he told the Irish Independent.
“I’ve played my last game of football. It’s not a decision I’ve taken lightly and I know becoming an ‘ex-footballer’ won’t be easy. I’ve found the last few years when I haven’t been playing for Dublin pretty challenging.”
