Both sides met at the same stage of the tournament last year, with Carlow edging Laois by two points in a 2-15 to 4-7 win. Carlow have a number of starters returning from last year, with Jack Barron in goal, Ger Coady, Michael Malone and Seán Whelan in the backline while James Doyle and Ted Joyce will start again in the forwards.

They have senior hurler Kevin McDonald also returning to start in midfield and will be key to all of Carlow’s endeavour.

Laois also have a few returning players with keeper Enda Rowland starting in goal, defender quartet Dwane Palmer, Ronan Broderick, 5 Ciaran McEvoy and Ryan Mullaney, with Stephen Bergin in the half-forwards.

Laois have not won a game in the Leinster Championship since defeating tonight’s opponents back in 2012 when they defeated Dublin and Carlow on their way to a Leinster final loss to Kilkenny. It’s bound to be tight, but Laois should get back to winning ways.
