Limerick 1-14 Clare 0-10

Declan Nash’s Limerick maintained their 100% win record in this season’s Littlewoods Ireland Camogie League Division 1 Group 2 following their five-point win over Munster neighbours Clare at Páirc na nGael, Limerick, on Saturday.

Sophie O’Callaghan and Niamh Mulcahy were the Treaty City’s heroes as O’Callaghan scored a crucial goal and Mulcahy contributed five points to their side’s 1-14 to 0-10 victory, ensuring Clare suffered a second defeat in three League games this season.

Clare’s Amy Keating opened the scoring before the eventual winners replied with the next three scores. There was little between the sides for most of the first half, with Clare even leading by one point towards the end of the opening quarter.

Limerick took a one-point lead when Sophie O’Callaghan pounced after 39 minutes and from then onwards it always looked as though Limerick would could out the victors, despite Clare’s best efforts to overturn the deficit.

Karen O’Leary, Caoimhe Costelloe and Mulcahy all scored points for Limerick, and Mulcahy even opted to take a point from a penalty before the end of the game.

Limerick now join Kilkenny at the top of the table with their second win from as many games, but Clare suffered a second defeat from three League games this season.
