Top sporting events this weekend 23rd to 25th May

There are titles up for grabs this weekend as the Champions League  and Heineken Cup draws to their conclusion, while in gaelic games, motor racing and tennis the action is only just beginning.

Here are five major sporting events to look forward to in the next week…

1. UEFA Champions League Final

After winning La Liga for the first time since 1996 last week, can Atletico do the double by beating their city rivals Real Madrid in Lisbon on Saturday?

2. Heineken Cup Final

Having already accounted for Leinster and Munster, Toulon face a Saracens side – who pipped Ulster – in European Rugby’s grand final on Saturday.

3. GAA Championship games

Next weekend Cork will play Waterford in the Munster Hurling Championship quarter-final, Down and Tyrone will do it all again, Galway footballers travel to London and there is the final round of the Leinster Hurling Championship qualifying.

4. Ireland v Turkey

We might not be at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil, but Sunday’s friendly at the Aviva Stadium gives Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane another chance to assess the squad ahead of up-coming Euro 2016 qualifiers.

5. Monaco Grand Prix

Will Lewis Hamilton make it five wins in a row next weekend at the Monaco F1 Grand Prix? Or will someone else step up to challenge Mercedes’ dominance this season?

Other notable sporting events to watch out for this weekend are The Championship Playoff Final between QPR and Derby (Saturday) and The French Open at Roland Garros.
