Monaghan v Dublin, Sunday, 2pm, Clones
This should be a cracking game of football in my opinion. Monaghan are a side that can put it up to Dublin and give them a real rattle especially on home soil. The Dubs will travel in their droves to Clones on Sunday hoping for a win to start of their new campaign. Dublin played a third string side in the O’Byrne and lost out to Westmeath in the final I expect to see most of their regulars return for this game here. Dublin have won league titles in 2013. 2014. 2015, 2017 and 2018 and they will be looking to another this year. However as we all know bigger things lie in wait for Jim Gavin’s men.
Dublin will look to players like Jonny Cooper and Philly McMahon in defence, while in attack Con O’Callaghan, Niall Scully, Brian Howard and Dean Rock are all key players. Monaghan will look to Conor McManus, Vinny Corey, the Wylie brothers and Darren Hughes. If Monaghan are to win these 5 players will need to be on song.
The sides are yet to be announced however these teams will be announced on Friday night after training we suspect. We will publish them here closer to the game.
Monaghan are 9/4 outsiders to win the game here. The Dubs are 1/2. I wouldn’t be backing Dublin at that price as their is no value whatsoever. The draw which are quite good looking odds at 15/2. Dean Rock is 5/2 to score a goal anytime, with Conor McManus 21/10 to do the same for Monaghan. I do expect Dublin to win this by a couple of points. Dublin to win by 1-3 points at 11/4 look good odds to me.
