O’Rourke confirms he will stay on as Monaghan Football manager

Malachy O’Rourke has confirmed that he will remain as Monaghan senior football manager for a fifth successive season.

Monaghan, who were knocked out after a surprise defeat to Longford in the qualifiers last month, also lost out to Donegal in the Ulster SFC Replay.

During his time in charge to date the Fermanagh man, O’Rourke has led Monaghan to Allianz Division 2 and Allianz Division 3 titles, as well as this he reached the Allianz League semi-final with Monaghan in 2015.

However, O’Rourke’s biggest wins in the championship have been in the Ulster Football Championship. In 2013 he managed the side to the Ulster Final a game in which Monaghan defeated Donegal by 0-13 to 0-07 in Clones. However, Donegal regained the title in 2014 when they beat Monaghan 0-15 to 1-09.  Monaghan, however fought back in 2015 and brought the Anglo Celt Cup back home as they defeated Donegal again by a 1 point margin, 0-11 to 0-10.

Monaghan, will not be back in competitive action until next January, when the pre-season Dr McKenna Cup begins.
