Roscommon v Dublin, Sunday, 2pm, Dr Hyde Park

The Dublin fans are said to be out in force for this Division 1 league game with Roscommon on Sunday at Dr Hyde Park. A large Dublin following is expected at the game. Roscommon will be looking for much needed win to stop the worrying threat of relegation, a win for Dublin would see them remain in the hunt for a league final place.

Roscommon under Anthony Cunninghan have had mixed results this campaign in the league. They have played four games, winning one, drawing one and losing two. The win came against Monaghan, the draw was with Tyrone and the two losses came to Mayo and then Cavan last weekend. Dublin’s Jim Gavin having been firing on all cylinders this campaign but as we know they have their sights set on something big this year, the five in a row. Still though they have put teams like Galway and Mayo to the sword with relative ease without having to get out of second gear. They lost games to Kerry and Monaghan however. I still don’t think Jim Gavin will mind that to much.

Looking at the players I expect to see, Roscommon will need to be very tight in defence against a superb Dublin attack. If they go all out defensive Dublin will just blow them away, if they go all out attack then they are leaving themselves open so its a catch 22 situation for them. In defence Conor Daly, Niall Daly and Ronan Daly will be key players. Tadgh O’Rourke and Enda Smith in midfield will need to be at their best as well. In attack Ultan Harney, Donie Smith, Conor Cox and Cathal Cregg will need to have big games. Dublin who impressed in that win against Mayo will look to players like Jack McCaffrey, Jonny Cooper, Mick Fitzsimons. In midfield Brian Fenton will be expected to have a big game. In attack Cormac Costello will likely continue at centre forward, while Paul Mannion, Ciaran Kilkenny and Con O’Callaghan are all likely to start again.
