It was another cracking weekend of gaa action with club action and county finals right across the country.
Looking at the weekends football in Roscommon St Brigids were defeated by Clann Na Gaels 4-15 to 1-12 at Dr Hyde Park. Donie Shine was the stand out performer kicking 1-07 for the winners. In Wexford Kilanerin and Shelmaliers played out a 2-11 draw each. Mattie Forde rolled back the years for the North Wexford men kicking 1-06, but it was county senior footballer Simon Donohue who kicked the equaliser to send the sides to a replay next weekend. In Laois, Portlaoise continued their dominance with an easy 2-16 to 1-13 win over O’Dempseys, Ricky Maher kicked 2-02 for the winners. In Meath Dunboyne won their 3rd ever Meath SFC title with a dice point win over Summerhill, winning 1-11 to 0-09, former Dublin player Stuart Lowndes netting a crucial goal for them.
In Longford Mullinalaghta were completely dominant against Abbeylara in the Longford SFC Final Replay. They won 2-14 to 1-02. It was their third title in a row under Mickey Graham who now departs for the Cavan senior football manager job. Rian Brady kicked 1-03, while Shane Mulligan scored 1-01. In Down Burren were winners over Kilcoo 2-12 to 2-09 in an entertaining game at Newry. It ended the seven in a row dreams for Kilcoo. Donal O Hare kicked 2-05 for the winners. In Offaly Rhode were comprehensive 1-18 to 0-10 winners over Ferbane at O’Connor Park. Niall McNamee kicked 9 points for the winners as they made it three County titles in a row.
In Sligo Eamon O Hara’s Tourlestrane beat Tubbercurry 1-12 to 0-08. Cian Surlis got the vital goal, while Liam Gaughan kicked 0-06 as Tourlestrane claimed their 3rd title in a row. In Leitrim Aughawillan were victorious with a narrow 0-13 to 1-09 win over Mohill at Pairc Sean Max Diarmada. In Wicklow Rathnew and St Patrick’s played out a 0-13 to 1-10 draw at Aughrim and will all to be done again in a replay.
