After the success of last year’s Solheim Cup in Meath, which saw the European ladies team claim a dramatic victory over the USA, Killeen Castle has launched the 2012 Solheim Cup Challenge, offering club golfers a chance to compete for a trip to The 2013 Solheim Cup in the United States.
The Solheim Cup Challenge, supporting Irish Autism Action, will run throughout the summer on the Jack Nicklaus Championship Course, with the first of four qualifying events taking place on Sunday 10th June. Killeen Castle is inviting male and female club golfers throughout the country to enter a four person team made up of any combination by calling 01-6893000 or visiting www.killeencastle.com.
Five teams from each of the four qualifying rounds will contest the Grand Final on the 23rd of September at Killeen Castle with the overall winner receiving winning a trip for four to The 2013 Solheim Cup at Colorado Golf Club in Denver, USA on 16th-18th August 2013.
Head Professional at Killeen Castle, Paul McCanny commented: “Last year’s Solheim Cup at Killeen Castle turned out to be one of the most dramatic sporting events of 2011. Over 80,000 people attended and millions of people globally watched the top female golfers in the world take on the Jack Nicklaus course and we are inviting club golfers all over the country to take part in one of the qualifying events. Teams will have a chance to play Jack’s magnificent parkland course and compete for a once in a life-time trip to watch Europe defend their Solheim Cup title in Colorado next year.”
Entrance fee for a qualifying event is €400 per team which includes a goodie bag, refreshments, a Solheim Cup gift and team prizes on the day. The four qualifying dates at Killeen Castle, Dunsany are:
