Today sees the start of the qualifying rounds of the 2011 Irish squash open, taking place this year in the Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club, County Dublin.
top ranked women’s player, and current world number three, Madeline Perry is back seeking her fifth win in the competition. Perry’s compatriot and Ireland’s number two, Dublin born Aisling Blake, is also in with a fighting chance of capturing the 2011 title.
Both ladies main threat for the championship will most certainly be England’s Laura Massaro. Massaro recently beat World Champion and World Number 1 Nicol David’s who had been unbeaten for 14 months.
In the men’s draw, the contest is headed by Australian Stewart Boswell, ranked 20 and drawn to meet the number 2 seed, and world 21 Ollie Tuominen, of Finland.
All Main draw matches begin on Wednesday the 13th, with Madeline Perry and Aisling Blake both in action Wednesday evening. Admission to all stages of the championship, from qualifiers through to the final on Saturday afternoon, is completely free.
