Irish riders claim 2 wins in Germany

In three competitions at the five-star show in Aachen, Germany on Saturday Irish riders claimed two wins and a total of four other top five places.

Shane Breen kicked off proceedings with an 8,600 euro win with ‘Magic Fox’ in the Derby-style competition over ditches and banks, with fellow Tipperary rider Denis Lynch close behind in second place on ‘Night Train’, while Co. Down rider Dermott Lennon took fourth with the Irish-bred ‘Loughview Lou-Lou’.

Lynch went on to take the 8,000 euro third prize in the Best of Champions class on ‘Lord Luis’, conceding victory to Germany’s Janne-Friederike Meyer and the Contendro gelding ‘Holiday by Solitour’.

Dermott Lennon returned for the final competition of the night, the Accumulator, and collected 7,300 euro for first place aboard ‘Hallmark Elite’, outclassing Britain’s Nick Skelton and ‘Big Star’ by just under a second on time.

Aachen’s 350,000 euro Grand Prix starts at 2pm on Sunday and will feature four Irish riders – Shane Breen, Billy Twomey, Denis Lynch and Shane Sweetnam.
