Fantasy Football weekend preview

Gameweek 10 of the Sportnewsireland Fantasy Football competition in association with CelticHorizon tours  saw an eight goal thriller at the Bridge.

Arsenal was on the wrong side of an 8-2 mauling at the hands of Man Utd earlier in the season however they showed that they are not a spent force just yet as they they came out on the right side with a 5-3 victory over Chelsea.

Many fantasy managers will have either been singing for joy or cursing Robin Van Persie’s name as he bagged a delightful hatrick for 19 pts to make him the top scoring player in the game with 73 pts.

Has Wayne Rooney become expendable? Especially as he now finding himself in midfield on occasion. As Ken Early said on Tuesday, he was spraying the ball around the park like a fat Steven Gerrard. Brilliant analogy! It’s worth mentioning Demba Ba’s hatrick for Newcastle, his 2nd this season, as they impressively defeated Stoke 3-1 & moved up to 3rd to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

Gareth Bale of Spurs returned to form in his side’s 3-1 victory over QPR netting twice with 3 bonus pts for 14 fantasy pts. Rafael Van der Vaart also scored & earned 3 fantasy pts for 10 pts.

In SNI, there was no change at the top with Darren Brennan still top, 11 points clear of 2nd placed David Arrigan with Keith Wallace 11 pts behind David. The best score of the week went Garreth Kelly with 92 pts. Garreth captained RVP and also had Van der Vaart & Ba in his team. He moved up 47 spots as a result to 154th.

Daniel Carroll wasn’t far behind with 90 pts despite captaining 2 pt Adebayor, he also had Ba, RVP, Mata, Van der Vaart, Sinclair in his team

Looking ahead to GW 11 and 3 players I’m picking out to perform well (bear in mind that I’m having a mare thus far this season so take my advice with a proverbial pinch of salt!)

    • Andy Wilkinson – Stoke – 4.0m. Cheapest defender in the game and with upcoming matches against Bolton, QPR & Blackburn, a Stoke defender is worth a shot.
    • Aaron Ramsey – Arsenal – 6.6m. Still a comparatively cheap midfielder who chips in with the odd assist and the Gunners have a seemingly easy run of games against WBA, Norwich, Fulham & Wigan
    • Gervinho – Arsenal – 8.9m. It’s difficult to look past RVP up front for Arsenal but if he’s out of your prize range then you may want to consider Gervinho who has chipped in with a couple goals & 4 assists thus far this season and seems to be forming a good partnership with RVP.

There’s a 2 week break after GW 11 with the Euro Championships Play-Offs, come on Ireland!!
