Electric Ireland “Get Energised Challenge” launched

The London 2012 Olympics officially get underway in 150 days and Electric Ireland, proud sponsor of Team Ireland, marked the occasion with athletes, David Gillick, Fionnuala Britton and Michael Conlan.

Launching the Electric Ireland “Get Energised Challenge”, London Olympic hopeful, David Gillick said, “It’s hard to believe that it is only 150 days to the start of the London Olympics. It’s good to take time to reflect on the fact that the biggest sporting event in the world will take place on our doorstep shortly, but of course that does bring its own pressure. For me it’s the pressure of ensuring I’m on Team Ireland come July 27th. The Electric Ireland “Get Energised Challenge” is a great way for people across the country to feel the energy of what is essentially a home Olympics and make little changes to get fitter and healthier”..

The Electric Ireland “Get Energised Challenge” is a new initiative for people across Ireland to get “energised” through a series of simple tips from Team Ireland athletes to show how we can all put a little more energy back into our lives. Electric Ireland will also run a competition for a few lucky people to win a chance to take part in a special health and fitness training day in April focused on best in class energy tips from nutritionists, sports psychologists and fitness experts. There will also be an opportunity to meet some Team Ireland athletes.

Speaking at the launch, Ken McKervey, Commercial Manager, Electric Ireland, said, “Electric Ireland has been overwhelmend by the positive reaction from our customers, staff and general public to this sponsorship. It is clear that people across Ireland have a huge interest in the Olympics, in fact according to our research, over 70% of people claim they will watch the Olympics this summer.”

“We put a countdown clock at ESB Head Office on Fitzwilliam St in January to mark the 200 days countdown and we are delighted to see it have become a focal point for the public and visitors to Dublin, with many people stopping to have their photo taken with the clock. It is great to see this interest in what is essentially a home Olympics. We are delighted that David, Fionnuala and Michael took the time out of their busy schedules today to launch our Get Energised Challenge.”
