Waterford golfer Robin Dawson, who got a late tournament invite last Monday, shot the round of his life with a 64 during the early Saturday morning action.

The 23-year-old, attached to Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links, carded a 6 under par 64 in a bogey-free round in Co. Clare to move into the clubhouse lead at this early stage.

Birdies on five par fours as well as on the par five 12th hole saw Dawson add to his 68 and 71 from the first and second rounds respectively, giving him a three-round total of 203, 7 under par.

Overnight leader, Zander Lombard from South Africa (-9), tees off at 12.50 with England’s Eddie Pepperell (-8).
