Waterford’s Captain Geoff Curran won the final leg of 2017 TRM/Horseware New Heights Champions Series at Barnadown, Co. Wexford, on Saturday, but Tipperary’s Rio Olympian Greg Broderick won the overall title.
Broderick and the 10-year-old gelding Chinook topped the final league table after a season which included victories at Ballinasloe, Cork and Balmoral, with Nicholas Butler and Vimminka finishing as runners-up.
The final leg of the nine venue series which took place at Barnadown saw Capt. Geoff Curran and Dollanstown achieve the only double clear of the competition. Jenny Rankin and Baccarat produced the fastest four fault score of the jump-off (42.53 seconds) to finish as runners-up, while Greg Broderick and Chinook finished third on the day with one fence down in 42.57 seconds.
Horse Sport Ireland CEO Ronan Murphy along with sponsors TRM/Horseware presented a cheque for €2,000 to the leading rider Greg Broderick. Additional prizes were also awarded to the three highest placed Irish bred horses.
Hugh Fitzpatrick, breeder of Erne Ladygoldilocks took the top prize of €3,000, with Ray O’Reilly, breeder of Hilton CMS Paparazzi collecting €2,000 and RP Kelly, breeder of Aldaluck taking home €1,000.
The lucrative New Heights Champions Series boasted an overall prize fund of over €110,000 and started at Louth County Show back in April.
