Wexford inflicted a 24-point hammering of Offaly at Tullamore on Saturday in a 5-star performance. Despite hitting 19 wides Wexford were dominant from start to finish and completely outplayed Offaly who slumped to their third defeat in the round robin series, while Wexford made it 2 wins from 2.

Wexford were ahead 3-12 to 0-06 at the break and the game was basically finished as a contest. Conor McDonald got Wexford on the scoresheet with a well taken goal and Aidan Nolan followed that up minutes later with a goal of his own to make it 2-05 to 0-02 in Wexford’s favour after 12 minutes in the opening half. Wexford then had a penalty saved by Offaly netminder Eoghan Cahill, but he had to face up another one just before half time, Mark Fanning was given the task of beating his opposite number 1 and he duly obliged as Wexford were scoring at will. Sean Gardiner was sent off during that play on a second yellow card.
The second half Wexford kept going from where they left off. Faythe Harrier club man Lee Chin popped up with a goal on 41 minutes and Jack O’Connor registered Davy Fitzgerald’s’ charges fifth goal on 45 minutes to leave Wexford with a commanding 5-14 to 0-08 lead. Oisin Kelly did get a goal for Offaly, but was sent off minutes later, the hosts had also Ronan Hughes sent off minutes from time and ended the game with just 12 players. Offaly will be without these two players who were sent off on straight red cards for the Dublin game.
Shane Dooley managed to get another Offaly goal with injury time approaching but it was to little to late as Wexford maintain their 100% record and will play Galway next weekend in Wexford Park in what promises to a another great game.
