Equestrian: Fraser Duffy to the fore in Portugal

Eventer Fraser Duffy, who made his international debut for Ireland just last month, on Sunday) chalked up his first Irish victory when taking the winner’s trophy at CCI2* Barroca D’Alva in Portugal.

Duffy, who had already taken a third place at Portugal’s Vale Sabroso on his Irish debut and a sixth at Barroca last week with Carol Gee’s Irish Sport Horse Fernhill Revelation, rode the same horse to his first international win for the country.

Lying fourth after dressage on Friday, Duffy went clear on the cross country course

on Saturday and left all the poles standing in yesterday’s show jumping phase to finish on his dressage score of 48.1, which was enough to beat the overnight leader, Spain’s Gonzalo Blasco Botin with All Pan Pan, who incurred four jumping faults .

Duffy also accounted for ninth place in the CIC3* at Barroca on Sunday afternoon, with another Carol Gee Irish Sport Horse, Boleybawn Fernhill, in a competition that was won by Elaine Pen from the Netherlands, on Dostowjesky
