Manchester United will play Barcelona in a pre-season friendly in Gothenburg on 8 August.
The two giants of European football have contested two of the last four Champions League finals with Barcelona triumphant in both games. New Barcelona manager, Tito Vilanova will experience Man Utd for the first time after taking over from Pep Guardiola.
Vilanova will be looking to better the last friendly result against United after Barcelona lost 2-1 in Washington DC last summer.
Both teams suffered disappointing seasons last year as Barcelona missed out on a fourth consecutive title to Real Madrid. United lost out to Manchester City on the last day of the season after suffering a disastrous run of form in the last four games of the season.
United will play in Gothenburg for only the second time as part of a world wide pre-season tour that stops off in South Africa, China and Norway.
David Gill, United’s chief executive said, “Manchester United against Barcelona is one of the top fixtures in world football and we are delighted to work with GotEvent to bring this match to the beautiful city of Gothenburg. We have a large following throughout Scandinavia and it’s great that this match will form part of our preparations for the new season.”
