LSU travels to Gainesville on Saturday to take on the Florida Gators in an SEC matchup. This game was definitely viewed as a marquee game for the SEC before the season, but there is less excitement due to the disappointing performance of LSU thus far. Florida won last year’s contest 16-10 in Baton Rouge securing their spot in the SEC championship and the SEC East crown.
LSU is currently 3-2 and coming off an embarrassing loss to Troy at home last week in a game that featured the Tigers as 21-point favorites. They also have lost their only SEC game in a blowout to Mississippi State by the score of 37-7. Running Back Derrius Guice entered the season as a Heisman front runner, but injuries have hampered his performance. It looks like he will be healthy for this Saturday which bodes well for LSU.
Florida has won three straight after a week 1 loss to Michigan. The Gators had a big win against Vanderbilt last Saturday, but lost quarterback Luke Del Rio in the process after he sustained a collar bone injury. Florida will turn to freshman Feleipe Franks to step in at quarterback who performed well to finish last week’s game. Leading wide receiver Tyrie Cleveland is also doubtful for this Saturday with an ankle injury. The good news is that Florida has established an efficient running attack led by freshman Malik Davis who is averaging 7.4 ypc.
Prediction and Betting Advice:
I think both of these teams have major concerns heading into this game. LSU looks like a program on the brink of collapse under first year head coach Ed Orgeron. Florida has found ways to win lately, but will be without their top playmaker Tyrie Cleveland. Florida head coach Jim McElwain has shown pose and creativity to overcome a variety of challenges already this season including player suspensions, hurricane effects, and quarterback controversy. I like Florida to again find a way to win and cover the 2 points. My pick is Florida +2
