Horse racing Trainers teach jockeys a lesson at charity football match

The annual Jockey v Trainers charity match was held in Simonstown GAA club outside Navan this evening with a comprehensive win for the trainers by ten points. The night was organised in aid of the national rehabilitation hospital and there was a decent crowd in attendance for a cold November evening.

The match started brightly for the jockeys with Johnny Murtagh and Roger Loughran linking up well and it was Loughran who go the first score on nine minutes from a point from play and followed up with a point from play on 15minutes. Amazingly that was the end of the scoring for the Jockeys until the last kick of the game.

The Man of the match Wille McCreery was the difference between the teams and would of at least had four goals if was not for some fine saves by the Jockeys goalkeeper David Casey.

Colm O’Rourke got the first two scores for the trainers to leave it 0-02 to 0-02 after sixteen minutes. Ronan O’Dwyer scored a great goal for the trainers, to give them a half time lead on a score of 1-02 to 0-02.

Wille McCreery scored two goals at the start of the second half. One from forty five yards that dropped in over the head of David Casey.

Matt Donnelly, John O’Shea, Ted Walsh jnr and Wille McCreery knocked over points 3-06 to 0-02 after fifty minutes.

Niall Quinn who had come on a half time for the Jockeys was fouled in the dying minutes and scored to the resulting penalty to leave it a score line of 3-06 to 1-02
