Election Day, 25th of February, also coincides with the Irish Cricket Team’s most important match in their recent history. At 9am in Mirpur, Dhaka, Ireland will play Bangladesh, one of the host nations, in their opening fixture in the ICC Cricket World Cup.
Four years ago in the Caribbean the Irish cricketers captured the imagination of the Irish public like never before and this time around we’re looking for the Irish public to help them do it again
We are urging everyone in the country, after they have cast their vote at the ballot boxes, to unite behind the team. Last week Cricket Ireland launched a youtube channel – www.youtube.com/cricketirelandtv – and amongst others things it features a variety of Irish celebrities & personalities who have joined in backing the boys in green. The latest video features the judges and other celebrities from the All Ireland Talent Show. There are many more celebrity videos being released in the coming days.
Cricket fans and supporters of Irish sport are encouraged to join these personalities and record their own video messages of support – the more eye catching and unusual the better – and send them to Cricket Ireland to upload onto the channel and also send out to the squad. In this way, everyone in the country can get behind our cricketers and Vote for Ireland on Election Day!
Team sponsor RSA Insurance has backed the initiative and Philip Smith, CEO said “All the staff at RSA will be voting for Ireland this election day and cheering them on against Bangladesh. I am very optimistic about our chances and a win would get us off to a great start.”
