London 2012 silver medallist John Joe Nevin will make his boxing comeback later this month after 13 months out of the ring.
The 29-year-old Mullingar lightweight will headline on Friday 29 September in London’s Tolworth Recreation Centre, on a Steve Wraith Promotions bill which will also feature a number of local prospects.
Nevin has been out of action since picking up his third straight unanimous decision victory versus American journeyman Jesus Lule in Philadelphia last August, and will bid to relaunch his stop-start career with a six-rounder against an as-of-yet unconfirmed opponent.
Physical, promotional and personal issues have all contributed to Nevin’s stuttering journey in the paid ranks to date, but at 29 the two-time World bronze medalist still has time to forge a noteworthy professional career.
Originally scheduled to fight on 24 March Stateside, Nevin was forced to withdraw due to injury.
The Westmeath man last fought on this side of the Atlantic on the undercard of Matthew Macklin’s stoppage defeat to Jorge Sebastian Heiland at the 3Arena in 2014.
