Racing returned to the beach at Laytown on Thursday afternoon, and Ken Condon continued his excellent season, recording a double courtesy of Smoky Cloud and Curl Cat.
Smokey Cloud made most of the running in the opener and stayed on well to record a 7-1 success. It was also his trainers first victory at the seaside track.
Curl Cat also make the pace and was never headed as he took the Hibernia Steel Race to complete the double for Condon. The horse was winning his second race in succession having also been successful at Clonmel on his previous start.
Wayne Lordan was another to break his duck at Laytown, as he came fast and late aboard the well supported Pivotal Rock(10/1-11/2) in the Gilna’s Cottage Inn Maiden. The Tommy Stack trained winner had disappointed on her latest start but showed much more here and seemed to appreciate the surface.
Queen Commander recorded her first win after 18 previous attempts, when she came home in front in the www.angloprinters.ie Claiming Race. Willie McCreery’s mare had warmed up for this race with a spin over hurdles at Down Royal.
The O’Neills Sports Handicap was won by Kateeva at 12-1, while the Ger Lyons trained Romeo’s On Fire held off his stablemate Tarsille to take the concluding 7f handicap.
