Kevin O’Grady inspired Wexford to a four-point victory over Louth in Enniscorthy on Wednesday.
The sides were level 0-3 each after 14 minutes, but then O’Grady kicked two excellent points to put his men ahead. Kevin Rogers replied for Louth , but a goal from corner-back Conor Carty gave Wexford a commanding 1-10 to 0-4 half time lead.
Louth started the second half impressively, with a goal from a Jimmy McEneaney penalty three minutes in bringing them back into the game. They had reduced the lead to four points,1-11 to 1-7, when they had wing-back James Craven sent off on a second yellow card.
Wexford regained the initiative and with points from Michael O’Regan, Liam Og McGovern and O’Grady they established a 1-15 to 1-7 lead.
A second McEneaney goal from a penalty with five minutes to go was not enough to get Louth back into contention.
