Kieren Fallon has been given a surprise call-up to parter Recital for Aidan O’Brien at Leopardstown on Sunday.
The former champion jockey, who won the Arc on Dylan Thomas for Coolmore, takes the mount in the Group 2 Derrinstown Derby Trial Stakes. The horse was a beaten favourite under Ryan Moore last time and now appears to be Ballydoyle’s number one Derby contender. Fallon, who rode for O’Brien between 2005 and 2008 will almost certainly retain the ride if successful this weekend.
Fallon, 46, has had only one ride for O’Brien since returning from an enforced suspension. Finishing midfield on Viscount Nelson in the 2010 StanJames.com 2,000 Guineas. Sunday’s mount could yet prove another turning point in the jockey’s controversial career as he now looks likely to be back in favour at Ballydoyle.
